Description: This is the 1965 first pressing (Presswell plant) of this first album by a glorious sophisticated unpredictable and very special group. You'll know the two featured singles, but take my word that the album is worthy throughout. There are a couple oddities to this particular copy. First is the condition: I've called the vinyl VG+, but it lacks clicks or pops to a level I could have called NM-. The issue is that there's a gentle low-level grinding sound throughout that I can hear on Stax headphones (which are like audio microscopes). I think this will not disturb most people, and it's steady and unobtrusive, but may be audible during silent grooves on some systems; it depends I guess on how resolving your gear is. The second issue is that, despite the fact that the sleeve and labels and catalog number all clearly indicate stereo, I don't hear stereo here, but a beautiful mono mix from start to finish. I've come upon this phenomenon before on one or two albums on the Tower label, where the claimed stereo effect is actually slim or none. Since I don't have another copy to compare, I don't know if this is a case of exaggeration (distributing as stereo something that's not really) or a mislabeling at the plant of a normal mono copy as stereo. All I can do is describe it as I hear it, and I wouldn't want you to be disappointed. Parrot was a label of London Records, and the inner sleeve with London LP advertising is original to the disc.
