Description: I have just acquired a collection of 30 WW1 French maps which all relate to the very beginning of the war. At this time, it seems that (like the British) the French were not prepared for war in terms of mapping as many of the maps are printed from existing survey map plates - often dating to around the turn of the century, with some having slightly later revisions. Only as the months progressed and the war became more 'entrenched' did the Allies mapping services kick into gear. This particular map entitled "BAR-LE-DUC" is an 1897 Revision and was probably printed later, most likely around the time of the start of the war. The 'Revision' date merely refers to the date that the printing plates for the map were last altered to reflect changes. The map has some operational markings in pink and blue which suggest possible routes for the French on their way to engage the Germans in the first week of September 1914. Is in good condition for its age, with a few tatty edges and a couple of small ink stains. (See photos) Measures 84cm x 60cm. Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines. PLEASE NOTE - Following BREXIT, some items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival. This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package. Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
