This is about two men from the 91st Bomb Group. Both trained together in the states and were assigned to the same B-17 group in England. One was a B-17 pilot who completed 31 missions by the end of the war. He participated in Operation Thunderclap. This was the series of bombing missions in February 1945 that helped the Red Army advance into Germany. The other was a gunner who was shot down on his first mission and captured. He was one of the many POWs that was forced to march out of their camps in the Soviet zone to avoid the Red Army advance. A quarter of the men on what was called 'The Black March' died.
