MORE FACTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE: Franca Sozzani the Editor at the time who has now sadly passed, was not the most famous editor in cheif. But the magazines she put out under her 28 year leadership were some of the most memorable issues the industry has ever seen. Under Sozzanis tutelage Vogue Italia became known as the fashion magazine to take on the Industry's biggest most uncompfortable problems and do it in a distinctively bold way. In July 2008, sozzani's team unveiled a so-called "all black" Issue of Vogue Italia, featuring Liya kebede, Sessilee Lopez, Jourden Dunn, Naomi Campbell on a series of covers, plus about 100 pages of black models all shot by the legendary steven Meisel. The New york times reported that Sozzani was inspired in part by the lack of diversity on the runways at the time, and the debate it fueled in fall September 2007 in Newyork. Her way to address the lack of diversity was to specifically spot light those who have been marginalised, that was the Vogue Italia way: to draw special attention to the kinds of beauty pushed aside by the fashion industry for so long. Vogue Italias july 2008 issue showcased and celebrated black models and black women in the worlds of art, politics, and entire issue of an internationally acclaimed dition. There was imediate excitment about the "Black Issue" the Origanal run of the issue sold out in the united states and united kingdom within 72 hours. An extra 30,0000 copies were printed for u.s newstands, and 30,000 more were made available for European newstands, and 30,000 were made available for European newstands.
