Description: Very rare Vixen New Planet 80 telescope. Precursor to the Vixen 80ss, it shares the same optics as the well regarded Vixen Planet 80s and Tasco 99VR sourced from Vixen. This is the only Vixen offering with a microscope attachment. A special lens assemblythreads though the objective lens cap and converts the telescope to a microscope with a focusing range of approximately 3 inches to 5 feet. This can be varied by using different thread on extension tubes!The optics are clean and clear. The OTA has one or two very slight imperfections- see photos. Rack and pinion focusing is tight and smooth, and is adjustable- search online for instructions. The counterweight on the table top tripod is slightly marred. The warning labels and name label have faded with time, but are still faintly legible. None of these cosmetic flaws affect the operation or your enjoyment.The telescope utilizes .965 accessories, and can be easily converted to 1.25 by switching out the visual back. 1.25 backs are readily available from Vixen.I originally purchased this about 10 years ago for my daughters- they enjoyed looking at bugs and plants with the microscope attachment and once night fell were fascinated by the moon and larger planets. The moon is great through this scope, although there is some color because this is a fast achromat. Jupiter and Saturn and Galilean moons are easily seen, as is the Orion Nebula, Pleiades and other brighter deep sky objects.My kids are grown now and it's time to pass this on, hopefully to someone who will use it to with thier children- my kids are still amatuer astronomers!I am pricing this at what I paid for it years ago. Vixen Planet scopes go for about 700.00 on eBay, I am hoping that this will go to an end user and not a reseller.Kit includes OTA, finder with bracket, table top tripod, .965 diagonal, barlow, 8mm HM, 20mm C-K and 18mm Kellner eyepices, microscope attachment, extension tube and caps for OTA.
