Description: Vintage MIB Airfix 1/72 P-47D THUNDERBOLT Series 1210-50Originally requested in June of 1940, the P-47D made its first appearance only 11 months later. The THUNDERBOLT was the largest and heaviest singly engined then built. With a top speed of 426 miles per hour at a service ceiling of 40,000 feet and could outperform any of its contemporaries. The later P-47D version sported a bubble canopy for better vision and was powered by a 2300 h.p. Pratt & Whitney Double WASP engine. Armament consisted of 6 or 8 .50 caliber machine guns, and up to 2500 pounds of bombs or 10 5-inch rockets. Wingspan was 40 feet 9 inches and length were 36 feet 1inch.This Airfix kit features panel scribed fuselage, cockpit with pilot figure, 2 bombs and 2 fuel tanks, optionally raised or lowered landing gear, accurate marking decals including “Penrod & Sam” flown by LMQ piloted by MAJ Robert S.
