Description: Early- to mid-1950s Kay K-22 jumbo flat top acoustic. Solid spruce top, with back and sides of laminated mahogany. Ladder braced. Bridge was totally mangled (brass bolts/nuts had started to pull up from excess tension) but replaced with an NOS Kay bridge from the same era. Slight and stable risen areas on the top behind the anchor bolts, but I contoured the new bridge over these for better fit. Very minor. I also enhanced the scarfed-up area of the top under the bridge for better glue hold. All other parts original, including a nice set of no-line Klusons. Good neck joint and angle. It’s not the lowest action I’ve ever seen (just under 1/8”), but a good player, if you’re comfortable with the BIG Kay necks of the period. Has huge girthy tone but is NOT boomy or muddy. Cool but non-original vintage faux tortoise case. Very good condition cosmetically, but there is some scratching on the back that I’ve shown in a pic. NOTE: USA regulations under the CITES convention (trade in endangered species) have finally been loosened to allow easy international shipping of vintage instruments, unless they contain BRAZILIAN r******d (Dahlbergia nigra). Unfortunately the fretboard may be Brazilian, so this guitar still cannot be shipped internationally without an expensive and time consuming permit process. UPDATE: Ebay now demands that we sellers give THIRTY DAYS for returns. Any honest buyer will know within a few days whether there is any need for a return. I no longer take returns through Ebay, but I will never "stick" another musician with a guitar. Please contact me if there any problems, and we'll work it out.
