Vintage 1974 Sofiero Sweden Mug- ceramic pottery stein Rörstrand beer coffee art

Description: Mug for your coffee, beer, tea or sweet pen holder (?) … you do you. A really nice looking piece for any of those practical uses, the Swede you know, or a great birth-year piece too. The gold on black really pops. Along the handle we see the ‘1974’ edition. On the underside is the screened makers mark: Rörstrand Sweden and design “ARSKRUS 1.” With ‘kungligt sommarresidens uppfort under åren’ Rörstrand porcelain was founded in 1726 and one of the most famous Swedish porcelain manufacturers, with production initially in Stockholm. In December 2005, the factory in Lidköping closed down ending run of of Swedish industrial history of almost 280 years. Wiki: Sofiero Palace, or just Sofiero is located in Helsingborg, Scania, and was one of the Swedish royal family's country mansions. It was originally a Scanian farm called Skabelycke, bought in 1864 by Prince Oscar of Sweden and his wife Sophia of Nassau. The first one-story palace was completed in 1865. In 1905, Oscar II's grandson Prince Gustaf Adolf, and his wife Crown Princess Margaret, received the palace as a wedding gift. They renovated the palace and started the large Rhododendron garden for which the palace is known today. It was supposedly the King's favorite place and upon his death, he left Sofiero to the city of Helsingborg so that the general public could enjoy it as much as he had. During the summer the large grass areas are sometimes used for large outdoor concerts. Kopparbergs Brewery produces a beer named Sofiero.
