Description: This lovely portrait of an intense young woman with piercing blue eyes is painted in oils on thick paper that's been glued to a textured backing. It's signed "Bjerring" and dates to 1947, per a notation on the back that I haven't been able to fully decipher. It came out of an estate that had many midcentury artworks by Scandinavian artists, and it seems likely that this one was as well. (The notation on the back refers to the Swedish city of Malmo, and the surname Bjerring is Danish.) The paint is in stable condition with a couple of scuffs and a creased corner, as shown in closeup photos. This was framed in Connecticut probably not long after it was painted, as the framer's seal shows a five-digit phone number. The black-painted wood frame has a few minor scuffs and scratches but is still sturdy. The painting measures 12&1/4" x 14&5/8" and the frame is 17" x 20".
