Description: Stunning Eastlake Rocking Chair from the late Victorian period. My family history and this chair are originally from the Chicago/Detroit area, if that matters to you. This has been in my family since it was new, but currently the only one who finds it comfortable to sit in is my cat. It has all the requisite Eastlake design elements: rectilinear shape, turnings, incised lines. And it has the little tiny wheels that Victorians were so fond of. It's a platform design, so it rocked on its own base instead of the floor. I'm sure this was so that it could also have those little wheels. The seat is caved in, but I'll throw in the new webbing so it can be repaired. I'm pretty sure the last time it was upholstered was around the 1940s. Because of the partially separate base connected only by springs, it can be difficult and unwieldy to move.
