Description: liVery few original editions of this 1858 biography exist. St. Margaret of Cortona was Italian born; at a young age she lost her mother, and her father remarried. Margaret and the stepmother were at odds, and Margaret ended up running away and living unmarried with a man of higher class than she. When she found her partner murdered, a decade later (led to him by a hunting dog), she began to repent of her sins. She is known as a "resuscitated virgin," in that she was given divine purity and innocence by God. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, and her illegitimate son became a Franciscan. Margaret of Cortona was later canonized and is recognized in both the Catholic and Episcopal Churches. The covers and spine show a lot of wear; a bit cocked--in closed position, spine tilts to the right a little. Probably missing one or two blank endpapers before the title page. Some genealogical information is written in ink on the inside cover; elsewhere there is ink writing regarding an early owner named Fleming, of Peru, Massachusetts and perhaps later (?) of Washington, Massachusetts. More ink writing in the rear. Pages are brown and there is intermittent spotting throughout. Binding is pretty solid in spite of the crack at the outside of the book at the hinge. Book was translated into English; published by Peter F. Cunningham of Philadelphia kevindaleybooks Note: I try to identify any flaws in books as much as possible. Sometimes a photo will catch something that I hadn't noticed when making the listing--so it's good practice to look at the photographs as well as to read the listing. I want buyers to be pleased with what they buy! Thanks for looking
