EASY INSTALLATION: For outdoor use, roof slop has at least a 30-degree pitch for water run-off. Best installed on batons 6” apart or a plywood sub-roof, using heavy duty staples. This raffia grass type product is a natural material and is not waterproof. LONG LASTING: Indoors indefinitely. Humid outdoors climates 6 months - 1 year. Drier climates 2- 5 years. FULL DISCLOSURE: This Mexican Straw Roof Thatch is made from a natural organic palm leaf so it will eventually decay, no matter what it is called. TIPS: If the thatch is installed on a solid sub-roof such as plywood, it is best to raise the thatch off the substrate by using firing strips. Lay 1” x 2” firing strips vertically down the roof first and then install another row horizontally on top of the vertical strips. Lastly install the thatch onto the horizontal firing strips so that water or any moisture can escape the underside of the thatch. This way the thatch also has air flow under the thatch and is lifted off the substrate. This method will improve the longevity of the product otherwise it will degrade a lot faster.
