Volume I has 1" chip to leather head of spine, front hinge quite weak and literally hanging on by threads, needs some tightening; has penciled numbers and signature inside front board. Volume II has identical penciled signature and date of 1871, binding secure. Previously owned by "R Watts" who signed title pages. Foxing throughout both volumes and age toned, a complete copy of the edition that was first to identify authors Hamilton, Madison, and Jay. This edition was expanded to include the federal constitution plus the first eleven amendments, as well as additional essays written by Hamilton (under the pseudonym "Pacificus"), and is thus considered the most comprehensive edition. 317pp; 351pp. Additional photographs available on request.
