Description: Small fruits butter gourd (10 seeds), grown in home garden without use of pesticide/herbicide in PA. This vine is widely grown in parts of Asia. Commonly used in local cuisine, and well known for its medicinal property. It produces elongated small fruit (4-6 inches). Fruit is edible at any stage. Green fruit is crunchy and very bitter. Orange ripe fruit is mild sweet and bitter. Red seed coats are edible and pleasantly sweet. Seeds were harvested in summer and fall 2023. Sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before the last day of frost, or sow directly after the danger of frost. Sow seed 1 ft apart, and 1/4 in deep along the trellis.
