Description: Ultracel regenerated cellulose disc membranes are used with an Amicon Stirred Cell pressure chamber to concentrate or desalt dilute macromolecule solutions. The hydrophilic side efficiently retains and minimizes adsorption of proteins, DNA, or other macromolecules. After you rinse off the preservatives (glycerol?) and use them, if you treat them right, they can be used a few times. These Ultracel regenerated cellulose membranes have a 5,000 nominal molecular weight limit (NMWL) for retention of macromolecules in the sample reservoir. The chemically district membrane faces cause a slight concavity toward the hydrophilic side. This phenomenon is evident in one photograph of a membrane (not part of the item for sale) showing the slight concavity of the hydrophilic side. This is probably why they’re sold in the plastic container that presses down on the stack of alternating white membranes and blue protector sheets. Once hydrated, they’re pretty flat. The nominal diameter of the discs is 44.5 mm but they fit a chamber that’s labeled 43 mm. That’s probably the diameter of the O-ring that presses against the membrane when the chamber is assembled, defining the effective ultrafiltration area.
