Full-page illustrations. The spine of this book has been professionally reinforced with brown buckram, and also reinforced inside along the hinges, and it has modern endpapers. The remainder of the book is the original 1872 printing. CONDITION Good. Firm binding. Original print pages are bright, but the illustration pages are toned. The original boards have wear along the edges and corners and some light stains. In the front is some writing on the endpapers, and other pages, including previous owners' names. Smudges and writing to a couple of the pages, but generally clean Some spotting to the page block. COMMENTS An original edition of an important Bureau County, Illinois history book. You get the best of both worlds, with this book: a firm, sturdy exterior with the original 1872 pages inside along with the original boards. This is probably the most interesting of the books Matson wrote. Matson was a surveyor and a natural story teller, and the book makes for captivating reading. Some of the stories are true and some are legendary, some humorous some tragic. And the accompanying illustrations are wonderful.
