Description: Wonderful old ledger/record book from the early to late 1950’s of all the purchases of an antique shop in Falmouth, Virginia specializing in Confederate Civil war items, including rifles, French Cavalry Sabre, rare 1861 musket, and more. In addition, the owner sold blue and white plates, Staffordshire items, Reed & Barton silver, naval officers belt buckles, tea kettle, antique glass and so much more. There are many interesting inserts of all the record keeping. Included are the addresses of various consignors. It is fascinating to note that the owner was a Mrs. Montague. The Montagues were a very old family in Virginia dating back to the 1600’s. Robert Latane Montague (1819-1880) of Middlesex County, Virginia, was the famous lawyer and judge before and after the Civil War. I am almost certain she would have been in that family tree. The estate where this was found had many items dating back to the Civil War, including this fascinating ledger. The record book spine has damage, as pictured, and the covers are very loose, but the pages and the writing are all good and in good condition. This is an opportunity to own a piece of Virginia history.
