Description: Rare Northwood 1901 Pan-American Exposition No-Stripe Solid Vaseline Glass Vase w/Opal TopPerhaps the Rarest of the Northwood 1901 Pan-Am Expo Glass Bud Vases are the solid color body vases? Not sure, but an old-time collector told us that a long, long time ago. And since then, we haven’t seen, read, or heard anything to the contrary, nor anything in support of that statement either. But what we do know is that ALL these Pan-Am bud vases are hard to come by! This Solid Color Vaseline Vase has a Ruffled Opal Top with an Applied ‘Leaf’ Rigaree Neck Collar and features a fancy embossed Wreath Medallion in the front, that really stands out under a black light. In the center of the medallion, it reads - ‘PAN AMERICAN 1901’, Very few examples of the early Northwood Pan-American Vases, made in 1901 for the World’s Fair in Buffalo, have surfaced over the years. Perhaps it’s because National Glass Co. (aka Northwood) just began its operations in 1899 in Indiana, PA, and then replicated a ‘temporary’ glass-making factory on the grounds at the Pan-American Exposition prior to May 1901. Vases have been found in blue, white, cranberry, and yellow (Vaseline) glass with the white opalescent stripe; and in blue & white spatter glass; and in a couple of solid colors including clear, as well. The Antique Pan-Am Expo Vase measures 6-1/2" tall by approx. 4" in diameter at its widest with a 2-1/8" diameter footed base. There is one ‘leaf’ chipped off on the applied Rigaree to the left of the medallion that’s easy to spot. Other than that, there’s NO other chips, cracks, or repairs. Looks like this one was used as a bud vase, so there’s some light hard water deposit around the inside that I never tried to clean out. Its Overall Condition, commensurate with age of 123 years, its light use as a bud vase, and its rarity, is between a VG and VG+.This 1901 Northwood Vaseline Beauty is being offered here at a very fair ‘Buy It Now' price….. or you can simply ‘Make An Offer’.
