Box 257Port ReadingN. J. 07064USA Dear Mr. Miller,Thank you for your letter with the enclosed photograph. I see you occupy a very trustworthy position.Of course I received the Lakehurst Medal and The National Geographic Magazine, my answer, however, which I wrote on February 7th was by mistake sent by ship. I am an old man and can hardly walk or write my signature. But mygrandchild Brigitte wants me to answer your letters, and she does it for me. She wants to see you in later years; as she is only 20 there is left much time to go to America. So far I am at good health. As regards to Count Zeppelin I had the opportunity of talking to him a couple of times.Hugo Eckener was the man who kept the Era of the Zeppelin up; lateron he had to realize, however, that the great time was to go.He and me were quite a few times on the same airships, among others were: the “Weltfahrt” and the “Arktisfahrt”. Mr. Eckener gained re-Spect in the world for the Germans after it was lost in WW I, this made us very happy. Originally Eckener was a writer, he was from Flensburg.Lehmann was a marine and, as I wrote in the last letter, he was a great musicien. Well, you know, after such a long time it is hard for me to remember everything. It is a pity that Friedrichshafen does not even have an appropriate monument to the honor of the Zeppelin Era. Sincerely yours, Philipp Lenz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE CONDITION IS EXTREMELY FINE WITH FOLD LINES AND SOME VERY LIGHT HANDLING FROM ITS 49+ YEARS.
