Description: Exquisite commemorative reprint of a Hashiguchi Goyo Masterwork. Hashiguchi Goyo, Japanese 1880-1921, was one the finest Shin-hanga woodblock print artists of the early 20th century. Originals of his works often command prices in the $10,000 range and sometimes even much more. The original blocks for his works were destroyed in the great earthquake of 1923. This very elegant and lovely print is a work from a very rare commemorative edition. Instead of following in the footsteps of the earlier ukiyo-e artists who most often chose their models from the famous courtesans of their time, Goyo preferred of paint the geishas, waitress and maids of his era. This print is a portrait of the young waitress O'nao holding a tray on her lap. This lovely print would be a wonderful choice for the collector and the interior decorator. It would be striking displayed on your home or office wall. Goyo’s masterworks are in the collections of many of the world’s great museums. Among them are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago. ARTIST: Hashiguchi Goyo, Japanese 1880-1921.
