A rarely available species from the islands of the South Pacific, this species produces “wow’s” whenever our clients see it in flower in our greenhouses ! Producing very flat pseudobulbs about the thickness of the US dollar coin, it can flower irregularly on new, as well as old, canes from spring through the fall. It prefers to grow and flower under Cattleya and Dendrobium conditions and produces up to four small fragrant white flowers per inflorescence, each touched with soft lavender and yellow in the lip and lasting 3-4 weeks. These plants are mounted on cedar wood for their best presentation, their new growth producing very ornamental glossy waxy foliage, making it attractive in flower or not. Highly Recommended ! . While still a student, he managed the Raymond Burr Orchid Collection on campus. He received two scholarships to study plant tissue culture that also allowed him to study under Dr. Murashige at the University of California and Dr. Tanabe at the University of Hawaii. In addition, he was honored in 2005 with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Agriculture at Cal Poly in Pomona. In 1986, Norman started his renowned nursery, Norman's Orchids, based in both California and Taiwan. His parents, brother and sister soon joined him in the company as it grew. As the second youngest American Orchid Society (AOS) Judge to become fully accredited at that time, Norman has traveled extensively around the world to judge numerous orchid shows. In 1996, with Paul Bechtel, he initiated AOS Judging at the Taiwan International Orchid Show and since then has served as the AOS Judging Coordinator for the show. He has also long served as the AOS Representative for the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association. Norman has served as Past Vice President of the American Orchid Society and also regularly volunteers for them.
