Description: Medicine Bags are used to hold items that are special or sacred to you. I have made this Medicine Bag from a Snapping Turtle shell (not endangered) shell, which I have cleaned inside and out and then a clear varnish is sprayed over the shell front and back. The bag is made from soft Elk Suede Leather (both sides)The snapping turtle or trachemys scripta elegans. is Not an endangered species of turtle. The shell itself measures (over the top of the shell) approx. 9" L x 10 " W in the middle of the shell . The bag inside the shell measures approx. 7" L X 8" W with an additional 8" with the unique hand twisted fringe that has glass crow beads, metal beads and 1 1/4" tin cones at the bottom. Around the flap of the bag I have beaded glass beads and clam shell wampum, with approx. 2 " L X 3 " W turtle shell amulet. The bag has approx. 25" Braided leather straps on each side, has glass crow beads,metal beads and tins on leather ties on the side of the bag.. The color of this leather is what they call smoke, I scanned the leather so it might be a little lighter or darker than picture shown. On the inside of the bag I have glued elk leather on the bottom of the shell so there or no hard edges.This is a One of a Kind piece. My Ancestors believed that Turtle carried the World on Her Back. You can see by the back picture that I have cut the top and bottom of the back shell off, this gives you more room to be able to reach inside your bag. The bag itself I have glued inside the shell with a strong leather glue, and then sewn the front of the bag to the shell.. Store card comes with each bag explaing the meaning of all items used. After completeing the bag I cleans and purify each bag to bring peace and happines to you. Inside I place a small amount of sage. Please note: many times when cleaning the shell when it is shedding the top layer of shell once taken off has not had time to bond with the shell. There might be lighter areas on the shell when this happens. As in Mother Nature nothing is perfect. You will receive a story card that explains the meanings of all the items used. Please Note: Our Turtle Shells come from a Turtle Farm where they are raised for food. We purchase the shell as a by product, and to Honor Turtle's Spirit this Bag is made.
