Description: A stunning Pickard footed sugar bowl and creamer gilded and beaded. Signed by the artist Hessler.Mark 1.1. c.1898-c.19037/16″ dia. dark brown stamp. Possibly an “out-of-stock” expedient or the original Chicago startup mark. Very rare. The mark should be 1.11 cm in diameter. This mark is even smaller at 1 cm. No other Pickard mark is this small. This pieces were made either in 1902 or 1903. A rarity! In good condition for its age. Dimensions: creamer- 3" H x 4.5" H with handle x 3.5 " in diameter x 4.5" L with handle sugar bowl- 3.5" H x 4.5" H with lid x 4" in diameter x 5.5" L from handle to handle About the artist:Robert Hessler (signed Hessler, Hess. or a reversed R joined to an H) was born in 1872 in Philadelphia, and joined Pickard in 1902 and remained there through the 1920s. In the 1930s Hessler joined Yeschek's Ceramic Artcraft Studio. Hessler was one of the most prolific designers among Pickard's artists, and his conventionalized patterns are prized for their geometrical precision and exquisitely fine lines.
