Description: Pelargonium tetragonum is an odd Pelargonium from southern South Africa. It produces long, square or angular stems green, and small leaves, though the leaves are sometimes deciduous, leaving only the stems. The pink flowers are produced in pairs and are quite large and showy. It is primarily a summer grower, but will continue to grow during winter with water. It should be grown in a more well-drained soil mix with more mineral additives (perlite or pumice), as it can be somewhat rot prone. The stems can reach several feet long but are somewhat brittle. Pruning and strong light will result in a more branched, compact plant, but the stems can sunburn easily if not gradually acclimated. Five seeds from 2024, from hand-pollinated flowers. Seeds of this species are not often available. Sow seeds in spring with night temperatures in the 50-65 F range. The soil mix should be somewhat well-drained (perlite or pumice are good additives). Each seed is actually contained within a husk with a split down the side, and for best results, remove the seed itself by gently pushing on the ends of the husk and teasing the seed out. See: https://youtu.be/R-yMELF2pWc?t=486 for a demonstration. Seeds should have high viability under the right conditions and remain viable for several years, however, since I cannot control the techniques and growing conditions used, I cannot warranty the seeds. However, I try to provide instructions to maximize your success, and hope that these plants grow well for you! I offer free shipping on additional purchases, so feel free to check out my other items.
