Description: Up for sale is this pair of bowls made by Syracuse China. One is a cereal (or soup) bowl measuring 5-7/8" in diameter. The other is a fruit (or dessert) bowl measuring 5" in diameter. This pattern was produced for the South African Steamship Lines and was known as "Springbok". The company's history is discussed on the "South African Clan Line/Springbok" Wikipedia page. A similar Springbok logo has been used on South African Airways logo items. The springboks (small gazelles) are red and blue and the pieces are a light cream color. Both dishes are in good condition showing no chips, cracks or crazing. There are only a few light utensil marks in either one. The larger bowl has a date backstamp of "4-GG" meaning it was made in April of 1952. The smaller bowl has a date code of "92-K" meaning it was made in November of 1963. Thanks for looking.
