Description: The Puerto Rican-born American playwright, poet, and actor Miguel Piñero was leading member of the Nuyorican literary movement in New York City and co-founder of the iconic Nuyorican Poets Café, a pivotal creative and social hub for the movement. His poetry and plays, such as "Short Eyes," gave voice to the voiceless. Set in NYC's Tombs prison, "Short Eyes" won the 1973-74 New York Drama Critics' Cirlce Award for Best American Play and was adapted into a film that's since developed a (justified) cult following. Benjamin Bratt later immortalized the outsider poet in the 2001 film Piñero. Miguel Piñero died of AIDS-related complications in 1988. Up for grabs is an excellent copy of his collected works.
