Description: Hello! I am working through, and will be listing, a large 200+ issue collection of these New Masses, ranging from 1936 into 1948. You can search 'new masses' in my inventory, and also I have a New Masses category in my store for ease of browsing. If you don't find many now, I'm just getting started. It will take me approx 1.5-2 months get these all up. If you are interested in buying multiples, blocks of dates, or have a want list, please feel free to contact me and we'll try to work something out. Condition: This issue is near 80 years old. I grade this in solid GOOD+ condition. There is minor toning around the edges, and little to no creasing. There may be a HINT of brittleness in the toned edges, but NOT brittle to the touch, and is expected/common for paper used during this period of time. The spine is STARTING to split, but it's short, and there is no separation or loss of anything. ALL is still held together and readable in hand. Some minor edge wear, in the form of SHORT edge-tears, TINY chips, or a folded corner. NO markings. NO large tears, chips or loss of anything. NO clipped cartoons. Any notable/severe damage noted. Paper, although aged, is still flippable and in hand reading is comfortable, just don't be overly aggressive with it. YES, I spend time on the flaws, but that's so you know what you get. This is a rather appealing, still attractive, and well preserved issue. Book is preserved in an acid-free archival bag. Read further for packing and how it will arrive to you. Issue highlights:Article: 3 Years of War Article: Growth of an Army Article: Key to Far Eastern Victory Article: Diary of a Soldier Article: Canada's Tory Plot Article: Slovakia's D-Day Cartoons and illustrations by William Gropper, Nakata, Freda Weinzweig, Eugene Karlin, Edith Glaser and othersFront cover illustration by Gropper Article: Behind the European CrisisArticle: Children's Books Grow UpArticle: In the World of ArtClassified ads and/or book reviews and/or profiles and more...Packing: This issue is already preserved in an acid-free archival bag. It will be sandwiched in between 2 cardboard sideboards (with border around issue) for stabilizing, put into ANOTHER archival bag for further protection. Then put into a #5 padded/bubble jiffy mailer and taped up tight. ALL new packing materials. I do not recycle packing materials and reuse as my primary protection. I have shipped papers and ephemera in this fashion for a long time, and have had zero issue. I protect against bending as well as inclement weather and rain drop damage during travel. About: New Masses was an American Marxist publication with ties to the Communist Party USA. Photographs, articles, book reviews, poetry, illustrations & cartoons, these issues are a bold snapshot of history. This iteration ran roughly from 1926 with the final issues appearing in 1948. It began in New York, as part of the CPUSA output of publications. Many of the contributors were or went on to be important figures in writing, music, thought, politics and beyond. William Carlos Williams, Theodore Dreiser, John Dos Passos, Upton Sinclair, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Dorothy Parker, John Breecher, Langston Hughes, Eugene O'Neill, Rex Stout and Ernest Hemingway. It also circulated works by avowedly leftist artists: Kenneth Fearing, H.H. Lewis, Jack Conroy, Grace Lumpkin, Jan Matulka, Ruth McKenney, Maxwell Bodenheim, Meridel LeSueur, Josephine Herbst, Jacob Burck, Tillie Olsen, Stanley Burnshaw, Louis Zukofsky, George Oppen, Crockett Johnson, Wanda Gág, and Albert Halper, and Aaron Copland. In the 30?s it took on a much more Leftwing/Marxist focus, and the arts, poetry and such were much more selective. In 1948, New Masses published its final issue, and was rolled into Masses & Mainstream which continued on until 1963. I will happily answer any further questions. Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and I've made offers myself on my own purchases. To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers. Best not to waste our time. With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer. If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings. I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases. I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
