Description: A nicely shaped hand-painted Japanese satsuma vase with detailed paintings of a weeping cherry tree in bloom that shows a pagoda in the distance. The ceramic vase has been glazed with a fine off-white crackle glaze and a fairly realistic landscape of a weeping cherry, pigeons, water, and a pagoda. The cherry even shows the lines on the bark. The painting is very fine and extensive. Gilt has been used to accent and paint borders. The shallow foot is unglazed. The base has Shimazu crest with a two character generic satsuma mark below. MEASUREMENTS 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) diameter x 7 ½” (19.0 cm) tall. Weighs 15.4 oz (420 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There is slight wear to the gilding at the mouth rim. A very decorative vase to add to a collection or use to decorate that mid-century décor.
