Description: the JNR class 9600 steam locomotive was produced primarily by kawasaki heavy industries from 1913 thru the late 1920s; the "kunroku" - old man mountain - as it was nicknamed was the first japanese mass produced locomotive....828 locomotives were produced and used exclusively in freight service, having a top operating speed of 65 kph. a few 9600s continued to be utilized in special circumstances into the 1960s.......most were supplanted with the arrival of the ubiquitous d51 in the 1930s..... i acquired this jnr class 9600 from a small model railroad reseller in japan who eschews any evaluation of his merchandise and avers that the photo provided is the only guide.....upon arrival, an inspection of the a9705 revealed a pristine shell and wheel sets.......the test run only confirmed the visual appraisal of the current collection mechanism as n scale factored running speed was achieved at 25% on the rheostat with smooth and consistent performance in both forward and reverse..........the head lamp was comparatively vibrant although the dull orange characteristic of pre chip led technology (circa 1999)....... the only accessory for the a9705 is a rapido coupler for the front end, whose installation protocol must be essentially intuited as microace provides only a rudimentary sketch as guidance..........
