Description: Title: Mexico - Zihuatanejo & Acapulco Bay, Bellin Old Map 1748 Description: This antique copperplate engraved map with hand coloring, titled Vue de L'Entree de Chequetan ou Seguataneo - Vue de L'Entree du Port D'Acapulco, was created by Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772). It depicts the bays of Zihuatanejo and Acapulco in Mexico during the 18th century. At the time, Zihuatanejo was a small fishing village, with its bay occasionally used as a port for shipping wood and minerals. The bay was also visited by famous pirates like Sir Francis Drake and William Dampier. Cartographer/Mapmaker: Bellin, a renowned French cartographer and hydrographer, produced numerous maps during his 50-year career. This particular map is part of his work for the Ministère de la Marine and was engraved by Jakob van der Schley, a Dutch engraver.
