Subject of this piece is a gothic dark stairway out to the sky with clouds and gates to the heavens, a dreamy atmospheric style. Oil on masonite. Active in the 1960s and into the 1970s period, this work appears to be from the late 60s to early 1970s period. Signed lower right, "Anto". LISTED: Askart. "Maria Anto (1936 - 2007) was active/lived in Poland. Maria Anto is known for Atmospheric, dreamy and disturbing landscape and interior scene. Maria Anto (1936 - 2007) born in Warsaw on December 15, 1936, studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the direction of Stefan Pluzanski and Michal Bylina. She graduated in 1960. In 1963 she took part in the Art Biennale in Sao Paulo. She regularly exhibited in the country. She quickly developed her own style of painting, poetics and mood that distinguish her painting from contemporary ones. The flimsy, ethereal figures from her paintings, close to the creativity of the primitives, find themselves in unreal landscapes and interiors, far from the rules of perspective, but close to the logic of dreams.
