Description: Marantz 6100:: Belt drive and semi automatic operation..on board is an Empire 3000 cartridge with a genuine Empire stylus. This combination sounds very good—*** it must be noted that this cartridge generates a humming which can be heard between songs. It may get better with placement of the machine behind the speakers—. I completely cleaned this player inside and out….removed/replaced old sticky grease…lubricated the spindle…added a new belt…added dampening oil to the cueing…replaced the filter cap….applied real wood Rosewood veneer to the bottom ……and sound/functions tested this for at least an hour or two. Everything works as designed. I determined, by using an RPM app, that the speed is slightly slower than spot on—-but I couldn’t hear the difference. Condition is very good throughout with some marks on the base ….some oxidation on the platter.. the mat is ever so slightly hardened —there are a few scratches on the center plate…the cover has some surface swirling and scratches—no cracks however—overall appearance is quite nice….the feet bottoms are slightly worn. Taken altogether this is a very solid player…semi automatic…excellent cartridge …with all the Marantz Swag to boot!! I will ship utilizing FedEx to any of the contiguous 48 states. You will need to mount the platter—and the drive belt in belt drive machines—the counterweight..and in some cases the anti-skate weight. DO NOT operate the machine without first properly balancing and setting the appropriate tracking weight.
