Description: A STUNNING Semi-Antique 42” x 104” Sumbanese Ikat Tapestry With mesmerizing patterns and characters! Fascinating geometric patterns abound in this, one of the most compelling Indonesian ikat tapestries! This large, 8-foot long tapestry, created by weaving together two 21” panels, was deftly made in perfect symmetry! Warm greens, muted yellows, and earthen reds weave a complex story of tribal dancers, land animals, and sea creatures!It is likely that the previous owner stitched in a very subtle pleat as to hang the tapestry on a curtain rod, which is why the piece appears gathered in the lengthwise photograph. I have left the pleat in case you also wish to display this piece by hanging it. It is likely that the pleat can be removed. The weaver of this piece is unknown, and it is unsigned. It was likely made in the early to mid-20th Century by a master Sumbanese weaver. It was found with two other historic and fascinating Sumbanese\Indonesian ikats – all of which are for sale in my store. Condition: This ikat is in EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT condition. It shows very few signs of use or wear and is free from damage or flaw.
