M1903A3, A4 Magazine Cutoff for Remington Mfg. Springfield Rifles, "Type 5"

Description: Orange Coast AuctionsDescription M1903A3 Springfield Rifle Magazine Cutoffs These are the "Type 5" cutoffs as described in The Model 1903 Springfield Rifle and its Variations by Poyer and The Collectable '03 by Harrison. This style was used by Remington starting in early 1942 during the transition to the Model 1903A3. It would be correct for an A3 or A4 sniper model. They have serif "ON / OFF" lettering and a flat profile forward of the lever. Of the "Type 5" cutoffs, the first two varieties are shown here. One style was made with a through hole for the screw. I assume this was a manufacturing expedient and done later in the production but haven't found a reference to confirm this. The other style has the standard blind screw hole, as was done by the other makers of magazine cutoffs. See the two side by side in the second photo. Note that a third variation by Remington which also has serif "ON" and "OFF" lettering has a round profile forward of the lever. That type is not listed here. See the third photo. We'll add it or create a new listing for those Typical Blind Hole: These have a blue-black finish. Some have the "ON" side of the lever polished. They are marked with a serif or sanserif "R" on the curved surfaced above the "OFF" marking. Through Hole for Screw: These all have a uniform black finish with no wear. The "ON" side of the lever has not been polished. They are marked with a serif or sanserif "R" on the forward face of the lever. These are all original USGI parts.
