Description: This is a lot of nine (9) EXTREMELY RARE 1980s and 1990s editions of The Golden-APA sci-fi fanzine. These publications were produced in small batches of only 10 to 20 copies. Some of the copies being auctioned here are likely the last surviving of their kind, and have never been digitized! These fanzines are in remarkable condition given their age and method of manufacture. The covers are well adhered on all editions but one. The staples go completely through the pages and hold well in all editions. There are minor discolorations on some covers and small creases, but no tares. Interior pages are excellent. For each edition, the photos here include the front cover, first page (some have tables of contents, most did not), random interior page, and back cover (some had covers with illustrations, some not). "Golden-APA" was a privately published writer-participant publication once known as an "Amateur Press Association," hence the acronym APA. These private magazines, usually printing no more than 10 or 20 copies, originated long before the modern internet era. Everyone who wanted a copy would contribute their own sheaf of writing or art, photocopied to as many copies as the group had members. The editor's job was not really to edit or change anything in the texts but to put the sheafs together in order so that there would be identical copies. Then the editor would put a cover on it, staple them together with heavy-duty staples, put the copies in envelopes and mail them out. The APA members were supposed to send in some money to cover the copying process and the postal fees. "Golden-APA" got its name from "Golden Apple," a theme which was featured in the satirical "Illuminatus Trilogy" (first published in 1975) by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson. This somewhat forgotten text inspired a movement in science fiction fan circles in which chaos, fetishistic sex, drug use, and uproar were cultivated as virtues. These fanzines come from a collection once owned by Martin Morse Wooster, a writer, editor, researcher, and founding member of the Beloit Science Fiction & Fantasy Association (BSFFA). He died in 2022
