Description: EXCELLENT CONDITION LINCOLN CENT Starting 1975 H.E. Harris & Co. Coin Folder The Lincoln cent was introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birth. It was the first U.S. coin to portray an actual person, and the first cent to bear the motto, "In God We Trust." Its mintmark ("S" for San Francisco; "D" for Denver; and non for Philadelphia) is located just below the date.A wartime copper shortage in 1943 forced the U.S. Mint to experiment with new metals for the Lincoln cent. In that year the coins were struck in zinc-coated steel. From 1944 through 1946, cartridge cases were salvaged for their copper, which was used to make the cents. In 1947 the Mint returned to the original alloy, which included a small percentage of tin not used during the war years. The Lincoln Memorial reverse was introduced in 1959 to mark the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's birth. The initials of designer Frank Gasparro, Assistant Engraver (and later Chief Engraver) of the U.S. Mint, were included to the right of the Memorial's base. The number of cents minted in each year is noted below its opening in this folder. No coins are included. H.E. Harris & Co. Coin Folders Serving the collector since 1916 This Coin Folder is in excellent condition! It appears to have never been used. Dates printed go up to 2000-D.
