Description: IN STOCK SIZES AND QUANTITIES ONLY. NO MEDIUM OR LARGE SIZES. DO NOT ORDER ! SORRY! XL AND XXL SHIRTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE ALONG WITH TWO SIZE SMALL SHIRTS. THERE WILL BE NO MORE SMALLS IN THE NEXT RUN!!! SORRY! XL and XXL sizes say "HYATTSVILLE MARYLAND" on front instead of "MADE IN USA". Read on for details................ HEY KIDS!!!!!! Remember when they used to make good Electric Guitars in Hyattsville, Maryland? YOU DONT???? Once upon a time actual American craftspeople joined together within the incorporated city limits of Hyattsville, Maryland to make a quality alternative to that, uh, other "California White Meat". From c.1963 to c.1970, Kapa guitars were manufactured and sold in the Washington, DC metro area. If you had one, you know how good they were. These days, Kapa guitars command prices beyond their utility value. Many Kapa's are still as playable today as the day they left the factory. A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON........... Kapa solid body guitars were originally painted and assembled in Hyattsville, Maryland with parts sourced from well known Western European makers, wired using USA made controls with harnesses made at the factory. Later Maryland assembled Kapa guitars used a combination of Asian made and finished necks, bodies, pickups with some European hardware and American made controls. The Kapa solids were priced to sell below what many of the most popular West Coast made solids sold for at the time, with comparable build quality and playability to other American brands retailing in the $125.00-$200.00 range. It may be debated that the Kapa solids were also better playing than the "Chicago" brands and more up-to-date in design philosophy, following a "West Coast" aesthetic. Kapa was succeeded by "Bradley", "copy/lawsuit'' guitars wholly manufactured in Japan possibly by Matsumoku during the first wave of lower and mid price guitar manufacturing shifting to Japan at the end of the 1960's. With the introduction of the "Bradley" lineup, the manufacture and distribution of Kapa guitars ceased around 1970-1971. The earliest Bradley "copy" guitars are also well remembered around the DC area and can fetch prices today equivalent to many Matsumoku made instruments of the time in the DC area . Both original Kapa solid bodies and their later hollow body models still turn up in the collector market. Lots of DC area musicians still remember how they got their start on a Kapa. Kapa was very likely the first ELECTRIC guitar manufactured in the state of Maryland, certainly the ONLY electric musical instrument builder in Hyattsville, a town otherwise once known for a disproportionate number of car dealers on both sides of US Route One which cuts thru our little burg north to south.[c'mon over, it's all condos now!!!!!] Kapa predated Maryland's other legendary indigenous guitar makers, Micro-Frets and PRS by almost as much as a decade each. Now, guitarists everywhere can celebrate the heritage of a great Maryland product from the 1960's. END OF HISTORY LESSON. TEST TO FOLLOW........[no cheating and as always, no wagering..] EXTRA CREDIT HISTORY PART---- Less than two miles away from where Casa del Kapa once was, the legendary Cross Roads club where Roy Buchanan was discovered still stands. Long closed. Git 'yo drink on elsewhere........... OH YEAH.. T-SHIRTS..... The T shirts are 100% cotton Guildan shirts printed on the front with the Kapa logo. On the rear is printed an actual trade ad for the legendary Kapa Continental 12 string guitar at its original retail price! [Please do not attempt to contact the factory for more info or to order a guitar, the ad copy is from 1967 and no one is home now!] Shirts run true to size and the artwork is high quality screen printing in black ink. Instead of " MADE IN U S A" written on the front, XL and XXL sizes will say "HYATTSVILLE MARYLAND" in the same font and same spot below the Kapa logo. WHY HYATTSVILLE MARYLAND, YOU SAY????? Weren't you listening earlier? Hyattsville Maryland was the home of The House of Kapa. [and a few other things, but this is a "family friendly" listing] BTW, I'm not taking another pic of the "new wording" shirts, let's keep this easy. Thanks in advance.
