Description: John Cobel Chalk Colored (1928-2018) Detroit Artist Abstract is signed and dated. One of three children to John H. and Lillian Coble. These are the first releases of Johns works since his passing and a final probate court decision on ownership. Before his death he began do sell a few pieces and you can see the results on live auctioneers. He spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma and Detroit, and at the age of sixteen, John went aboard a ship in New York and served his country as a Merchant Marine, transporting supplies and equipment to troops during World War II. John’s love of helping others and his gregarious nature suited him well for his career as a cab driver in Southfield and Detroit areas. He owned his own taxicab and was proud of it. John and Florence made their home in Detroit, then Farmington until settling in Highland in 1976. Many of his subjects are of his passengers that he encountered on his Route. John was an artist in both painting and sculpture. He was proud of his own oil paints and his home was a gallery of sculptures and paintings. A lot of his art reflects his belief of Jesus or the the disciples.
