Description: Reduced price from $2500 to this updated listing. Also look at my other offer, listing to buy the exceeding rare JA Whaley bronze peacock feather base only! Antique waterlily leaded glass lamp shade, on a rare & tall, J.A. Whaley bronze "Peacock Feather" 24.5" tall base. Pink & yellow waterlilies w/green pond leaves in green glass & geometric rectangular green glass tile background. Shade is signed on an original brass tag soldered to underside of shade's iron crossbar "International Shade Co Springfield Mass." Shade is just about 18.5" wide. Leaded glass shade displays, that it was made by a quality lamp maker, because the leading around each glass tile is very thin & symmetrical throughout it's hand made construction. As a lover of antique leaded lamps, I'm very hesitant on selling this lamp, because of the rarity & beauty of the JA Whaley "peacock feather" bronze base. If I sell this lamp, I will lose this exceedingly rare, JA Whaley bronze base - even though the base is missing the original socket cluster, that is associated with Whaley lamp bases. All I or you have to do, is buy a bronze shade rest wheel to screw on, to add, atop the double socket cluster on this base. Rest on the shade wheel, with the correct aperture width shade, a large diameter 18" - 24" wide Whaley leaded glass shade, to not only increase it's beauty, but the value will more than double or triple, if this rare tall Whaley peacock feather base is included, in a future lamp marriage. I bought this lamp 5 yrs ago with this signed International Shade Co leaded glass shade, resting on this same antique bronze JA Whaley peacock feather base. I believed the shade to be original to the base, even though the shade made in Boston & the bronze base was made in New York the hardware included with the socket cluster, the threaded hole in the iron crossbar & the finial that screws down onto the base, appears to me, that this lamp shade was original to the base. With further thought while writing this description, I am considering that the shade & base are likely not original, that someone possibly fitted the current hardware together to marry the Boston shade with the NY bronze base. However it was made, the proportions of base height & shade width look correct & nice as an antique table lamp. On the website - leadedlamps.com, there is added info on this International Shade Co Springfield Mass, in a description of a poinsettia designed lamp, in exact same shape form, with glass crown attached, with an iron crossbar, w/metal tag of this shade co, as the shade here for auction - it explains this lamp co on leadedlamps.com as follows - Some time between 1902-1903 Chapman was working with Richard Chandler before working with John Morgan & Sons and then Sibley & Pitman (Amboy Works). International Shade Company was started by Richard Chandler after he moved the business to Springfield from Boston. Shade rests, on this very rare, J.A. Whaley bronze base, in their peacock feather cast design, that stands 24.5" tall. This Whaley base is a rare variation, as it is solid bronze filled in just, below the socket cluster, whereas most of these Whaley peacock feather bases is open space, in the same area that is shown in pics, that display how well done the casting of this all bronze fantastic base, just below the socket cluster. Notice to other avid antique leaded glass lamp collectors, this rare bronze Whaley base, can be re-fitted, using the double socket cluster, with a circular bronze shade rest wheel, to accommodate, a nice large diameter, JA Whaley leaded glass shade. With a shade rest wheel, to rest your shade on, to make use, if you own such a shade, for a completed JA Whaley lamp, increasing the overall value, by adding this rare designed bronze peacock feather cast base. Condition: Leaded glass shade has 2 small heat cracks in the glass tiles. The unsigned J.A. Whaley bronze peacock cast base is in very fine condition with no cracks, chips or restoration & has the original dark green verde bronze patina with forest green specs throughout it's cast, making this Whaley base, an important & original example, of this rare peacock feather design, primarily made with the company's better shades, by the New York Co, J.A. Whaley Lamp Co, in early 20th C. I ship USPS priority mail with insurance of amount paid, that is included in the shipping & handling costs. I do not offer returns on antique items or this lamp, as they are an irreplaceable art form no longer made. Tall cardboard box, with base shipped separately from the shade, will be securely insulated with heavy bubble wrap. so base will not move around during transit.
