Description: Authors introduction: This book was developed over the past six years in conjunction with a sophomore course in mechanics given to all engineering students. The book was also used by junior transfer students who came to Buffalo without a full course in strength of materials. My goal was to write a book that would permit sophomore students to solve with reasonable adeptness the usual simple problems and not so simple problems of strength of materials. At the same time I wanted to give the student a firm base from which he could further his study of solid mechanics without having to redo or even, sometimes, undo what he had learned in his first course. No small attention was paid toward open-ending the material, where feasible and meaningful, to other engineering sciences and applied mathematics. Although the book is of the usual size (less than 500 text pages), there is clearly more in the book than can be comfortably covered in one semester. For this reason, I have tried very hard to make the book flexible as to its possible usage. ——————————- In good condition. Cover is somewhat marked.
