Description: Honolulu, Hawaii Cover 1937 metered airmail + slogan cancellation to Ft. Madison, Iowa I am going through some of my late grandfather's possessions, and he has some interesting postage stamps and envelopes. Grandpa lived in Ft. Madison, Iowa, where Sheaffer Pen Company was and still is headquartered. At the time, fine pens like theirs were often sold in jewelry stores, so Grandpa has envelopes from lots of jewelers, bookstores and stationers around the world that must have once held payments or orders. This posted airmail envelope was slit at the top and right edge with a letter opener to remove contents. Envelope is addressed from Honolulu Paper Company to the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison, Iowa. Postage is metered, rather than stamped, and has two slogans: The first, part of the original metering, has an image of a letter carrier and says:"Metered MailSaves TimeGets AttentionHonolulu Paper Co. Ltd. Agent" The second slogan is from the post office and says:"Buy U.S. SavingsBondsAsk Your Postmaster." Postmarked 25 October 1937. Normal handling wear. I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
