Description: Saint Andrew Avellino Single Decade Rosary Patron of Stroke Victims, also (unofficially) patron of lawyers and apologists and Liturgical celebrations and planners! The chaplet has a 7/8" oval nickel silver St Andrew Avellino medal from Italy, with an updated image of this devoted priest and saint. The 1-3/4" silver-toned crucifix and the medal were made in Italy; the chaplet itself was designed and handmade in the USA by me. The eleven beads are all 8 mm in size. The Our Father bead is a smooth, round, genuine Snowflake Obsidian gemstone. The ten Hail Mary beads are Czech glass, faceted and fire-polished, in alternating jet black and ruby red. Chaplet is about 10-1/2" long and comes gift boxed and with the following:St Andrew Avellino prayer card gift bag and tissue papercarry pouchHow to Pray the Rosary pamphletThe 15 Promises of Mary cardHow to Pray the Divine Mercy card This saint lived a pretty interesting life in the 16th century: Ordained priest at age 26, Andrew Avellino was first a civil and ecclesiastical lawyer, but committed perjury in court in the defense of a friend, and was so shook by this that he gave up the legal proffession and lived a life of penance thereafter. He was sent to reform a particular corrupted and immoral monastary. Apparently, the members of this particular place did not want to give up their pleasures; but St Andrew was eventually successful restoring celibacy in the order, however, at one point he was attacked by some people he had ordered off the premises (must have been the disappointed party-goers). He was taken to a Theatine Order house to recover from his injuries, and was so impressed that he became a Theatine Clerk Regular. These religious set out to proclaim the Gospel and aid the sick; they founded hospitals and also worked to correct the heresies of Martin Luther. St Andrew was very active in the order, as Master of Novices, a Superior, and establishing many Theatine houses throughout Italy. Still working at the age of 87, he suffered a stroke while celebrating Mass and died soon afterward. For this reason he has become the Patron saint of stroke victims and is invoked for protection against stroke and sudden death. He might also be a patron saint of lawyers.
