Description: DiMauro Boogie Woogie Gypsy Jazz Guitar (1940s) This is a splendid authentic Parisian instrument with its own delightful character and has that very distinctive vintage gypsy jazz sound that only an 80-year-old instrument can do.Antoine Di Mauro (1893 - 1966), together with other master Sicilian luthiers (Busato, Oliveri Anastasio, etc) left Catania in the early 20th century to setup shop on the East Side of Paris. These makers would become legends as they went on to make some of the most iconic Selmer Maccaferri style instruments we know and love these days. Di Mauro could count himself as one of the most successful and long-lasting luthiers of that generation, and his instruments were widely played and adored. Guitars by Antoine Di Mauro were always regarded as player-grade instruments and were treated as such. This Grande Bouche built in the 1940s shows signs of use reflecting the fact that it was well-used. It sounds and plays as great as ever! Just pick it up, strum a few chords and you'll be enchanted by an impressive dry, woody and powerful tone. Di Mauro guitars met with great success from the time. Many famous artists of the time played on a Di Mauro guitar: Notable players include Moreno, Boulou Ferre, Patrick Saussois, Samy Daussat, and even Pat Metheny! and of course the master, Django Reinhardt himself. The Boogie Woogie is based on the Selmer Maccaferri, and features a 12 fret construction and a long scale of 650 mm. The guitar is characterized by its cutaway and fingerboard that extends into the iconic D-shaped sound hole, allowing the high E string to span no less than 23 frets. This Di Mauro has that typical focused and clear Gypsy Jazz sound, suitable for both rhythm and solo parts. The "Boogie Woogie" model has long been considered one of the best "pompe" guitars ever made for Gypsy jazz. The Di Mauro family were deeply in touch with the needs of professional Gypsy guitarists, allowing them to produce instruments which were perfectly suited for the aesthetics of this genre. The sound is richer than some Gypsy-styled guitars without losing the all-important projection. It can produce focused, full bodied chords and the singing melodies typical of the European jazz tradition, and can stand more "forcing" than some more delicate guitars of this type. It is currently strung with the specific French gypsy jazz strings called ‘Argentine’ specifically preferred by players in this style but is sturdier than a vintage Selmer and could also handle standard acoustic strings if desired. With a deep sound, mids/treble which balances very well with nice bass, this guitar will be perfect for all fans of gypsy guitars and jazz guitars.Delivered worldwide in a hard shell cover (price included).
