I show this information for the background information for the war history: "GUATEMALA ~ 1906 SILVER MILITARY MEDAL for the WAR WITH EL SALVADOR. Rare.National Arms of Guatemala with legend CAMPANA NACIONAL de 1906 Rev: HONOR AL MERITO within wreath.Silver. 24mm diameter. Looped at top for wearing.War between Guatemala and El Salvador in 1906 was a brief conflict between the two Central American countries that took place between 9 and 11 July 1906 and which resulted in the death of Salvadoran commander Tomas Regalado , an ally of the government of General Porfirio Diaz in Mexico . The Guatemalan president, lawyer Manuel Estrada Cabrera , was an ally of President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States .In 1906 there was an invasion into Guatemala of political emigrants living in Mexico and El Salvador. Manuel Barillas , former president of Guatemala, and Jose Leon Castillo , former presidential candidate of the opposition, were appointed as commanders of the invading armies of Mexico and El Salvador, respectively. Both Diaz and Tomas Regalado opened the borders of their countries for the free passage of the invaders. They also had the support of steamship Empire, from San Francisco and gold provided by a friend of Barillas who lived in the United States. But neither Barillas and Leon Castillo were outstanding military men and, after a series of skirmishes, the invasion failed in June 1906.Regalado, declared enemy of Estrada Cabrera, was not happy with the result of the failed invasion. Then he began to tell Guatemalan emigrants who would get tired and weaken the Guatemalan president; upon learning of this situation, the Salvadoran president Pedro Jose Escalon found the perfect way to get rid of Regalado, who actually ruled El Salvador and outshone the presidency of that country. Escalon entered into compromises with Estrada Cabrera and constantly telegraphed all future movements of the invader. After discovering it, Regalado forced him to flee from San Salvador to Lake Coatepeque. And without the interference of Escalon, Regalado invaded Guatemala on July 9 and easily reached Atescatempa and Jerez, while Guatemalan soldiers took refuge in Yupiltepeque. In this situation, Estrada Cabrera issued a proclamation on 10 July 1906 in which he accused the Salvadoran government of invading Guatemala in order to prevent the completion of the Northern Railway and derail attempts for economic recovery. Estrada Cabrera said that only the war would resolve the situation and invited all the Guatemalan military or military training to enlist in the action. That same day the decree was issued number 662, where all men without legitimate exception between 18 and 50 years old, were due to their nearest barracks and if they did not, they would be prosecuted for treason. The citizens responded to the call of President and on July 11 there were numerous citizens in Cuartes. The Guatemalan military requested reinforcements, which arrived from Sanarate , Salama and Momostenango; these troops came dressed in blue, not khaki, like the original, which deceived Regalado, whose troops also wore blue. On July 11, 1906, Regalado was killed by Guatemalan soldiers when he thought he was between loyal troops. After the death of Regalado, Salvadoran troops retreated to El Salvador and later the Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Commerce between Guatemala was signed Honduras and El Salvador on July 20, 1906 aboard the American cruiser "Marblehead" at the request of the governments of the United States and Mexico."
