Gorgeous full polished calf binding on both books, along with many sumptuous details- triple ruled gilt edges, pictorial gilt in centers of front and back covers showing a royal coat of arms, fleur de lis in each corner, elaborate detailed spine gilting, gilt to cover edges, intricate gilt inner dentelles, regal blue marbled endpapers, etc etc. Condition: Very good. Polished leather looks great, hard to believe it's close to 140 years old. Tiny bits of wear to corners and a couple of the raised bands on Volume 2, but overall wonderful. Inside is bright and clear. These books have obviously lived in collector's libraries through the years.
