Description: This is a fantastic and historically significant Fine Antique Old American Civil War Solider Portrait Photo Painting, hand colored with pastels over an original Black & White Photograph, depicting a Civil War Union soldier. The subject stands on an outdoor patio, with trees, a clear blue sky, a low mountain range, and an army encampment of multiple tents visible off to the right, in the distance. The soldier confidently faces the viewers gaze and has a large sword hanging from his belt. He wears a navy-blue American Union jacket, pale blue trousers, and sports a short and neatly cropped beard. This artwork appears to be unsigned, but perhaps you know more about the artist, or the subject depicted? Hand painted and embellished photos were very expensive during this time, and I suspect that this person depicted was somebody of note or high rank. Approximately 15 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 12 x 20 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing, edge wear, and gilding loss to the original period gilded wood frame (please see photos.)
