Changing back into Donald Blake, he begins his daily routine as the renowned doctor and surgeon. As he works, he laments over his apparent unrequited love for Jane Foster, unaware that she loves him to a degree -- as she loves his alter ego Thor, and fantasizes about being married to the Thunder God.As fate would have it, captured criminal Thug Thatcher is being taken from a court house by the police when the paddy wagon is attacked by Thatcher's men. In his bold escape attempt Thatcher takes a bullet and needs instant medical attention. Spotting Blake's office, Thatcher and his men burst in and take Jane and Donald prisoner, threatening to harm Jane if Donald doesn't treat Thatcher.Forced to treat the criminal, Donald attempts to contact his father Odin telepathically to get aid. Sympathetic of his son's plight, Odin causes a lightning strike to hit one of Thatcher's men causing enough confusion for Blake to recover his walking stick and strike it on the ground changing himself into Thor. Thor makes short work of Thug Thatcher's men, however Thug and his girlfriend Ruby (who is starting to reconsider her life of crime) make an escape and head straight to Donald Blake's office where he hopes to use Jane Foster as a hostage to escape recapture.Thor arrives and is ordered to drop his hammer, as Thug is threatening to kill Jane. Thor complies but then kicks the hammer at Thatcher causing him to drop his gun. Thor then takes Jane to safety allowing for Thug and Ruby to once more flee the scene. Ruby however wishes to give up, but Thug has no such compunctions and escapes up the elevator of a sky scraper construction site. Thor's attempt to use lightning to stop Thatcher doesn't work out so well as the metal girders of the building attract the bolts of lightning, however the heat from the lightning strikes compromises the girders integrity, and when Thatcher tries to dump a bucket of hot rivets on the crowd below they give way and he falls.Thor however captures the crook and turns him over to the authorities, and is granted the request to eliminate all Ruby's memories of her involvement with Thug Thatcher so that she might start a new life before returning to his civilian guise of Donald Blake.Appearing in "Trapped: One X-Man"Reprint of the 1st story fromX-Men #5Featured Characters:X-MenAngel (Warren Worthington III)Iceman (Bobby Drake)Cyclops (Scott Summers)Marvel Girl (Jean Grey)Beast (Henry "Hank" McCoy)Professor X (Charles Xavier)Supporting Characters:Mr. Grey (First appearance)Mrs. Grey (First appearance)Antagonists:Brotherhood of Evil MutantsMastermind (Jason Wyngarde)Magneto (Max Eisenhardt)Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff)Toad (Mortimer Toynbee)Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff)Other Characters:Unnamed athletesNumerous unnamed spectatorsNumerous unnamed train station travelersDevil (Mentioned)United States Government (Mentioned)Races and Species:MutantsHumansRhinoceroses (Illusion or holographic simulation)Locations:EarthNorth AmericaUnited States of AmericaNew YorkEast RiverWestchester CountyNorth SalemSalem CenterXavier's School for Gifted YoungstersDanger RoomNew York CityTrack stadiumManhattanMidtown42nd StreetGrand Central StationWashington, D.C. They return Professor Xavier to the mansion so that he can get some rest and hopefully regain his powers. The X-Men ponder what they will do without Professor Xavier's help when they hear Marvel Girl's parents arrive for a visit. The X-Men quickly change into their civilian clothes so they can greet their visitors. They excuse Professor Xavier's absence and give Jean Grey's parents a tour of the mansion. The party heads to the Danger Room where Hank McCoy explains that it is a gymnasium and that the lack of all furnishings is because they are receiving new equipment. While the group goes into the lunchroom, Scott Summers is accidentally trapped in the Danger Room, and a program designed for the Beast starts automatically. He escapes the obstacles that the Danger Room presents by destroying them. Outside of the Danger Room, Jean's parents are unaware of anything out of the ordinary, and they leave. But nobody noticed one of Magneto's henchmen, Mastermind, searching for the X-Men's headquarters! After a few minutes, he calls Magneto to pick him up; the X-Men are not nearby. On Asteroid M, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch ask him why it is so important to find the X-Men, so Magneto explains that as long as the X-Men are around, they will intervene in his plans for mutants to rule the world. He then explains that he has devised a new plan in order to coax the X-Men out of their HQ.Back at the mansion, Scott ponders a plan to stop the Brotherhood when Bobby asks if he'd like to watch a track meet. Scott yells at him for not caring about the Professor. While Jean covers Professor Xavier with a blanket, Hank and Warren join Bobby by the television, along with Jean and the Professor. There is a contestant that wins the track meet using incredible jumps, so the crowd turns on him because they believe he is a cheater. The X-Men realize that the contestant is a mutant, so they head out to help him.Once they rescue the mutant from the angry crowd, the X-Men escape to the subway. As they arrive at the next station, the Beast realizes something familiar about the mutant. The Beast pulls off a mask to reveal that it is actually the Toad, another one of Magneto's henchmen. The whole Brotherhood then arrives to attack the X-Men, and Magneto captures the Angel. The Brotherhood flee with Angel, but they are forced to leave Toad, who was captured by the X-Men. Back on Asteroid M, Magneto interrogates Angel as to the location of the other X-Men, but Angel refuses to tell him. Magneto then attempts to brainwash Angel. The X-Men try to decide what to do with Toad when he suddenly falls into a trance. His only thoughts are that he has to return to Magneto, so he pulls out a communicator and summons a capsule from the sky. The X-Men follow the Toad, in order to find Angel. They appear on Asteroid M, to the Brotherhood's surprise. Magneto attempts to kill the X-Men with the push of a button, but the console is sabotaged by the Scarlet Witch because she cannot tolerate murder. Magneto and the two siblings argue over their loyalties, giving the X-Men time to free the Angel and attack! The fighting causes some extensive damage to Asteroid M, which causes it to start to fall apart. Cyclops is trapped in a section of the asteroid that breaks off right away. Iceman has to create an ice tunnel so that Angel can rescue Cyclops. Before the asteroid is fully destroyed, the X-Men use the capsule to return to Earth. Upon returning to the mansion, they try to tell Professor Xavier what had occurred. Professor Xavier informs them that he was able to follow everything because he did not lose his telepathy! Since the X-Men performed this solo mission perfectly, they passed their final exams and their training is over.Appearing in "Iron Man Faces the Menace of the Mad Pharaoh!"Reprint of the 1st story fromTales of Suspense #44Featured Characters:Iron Man (Tony Stark)Supporting Characters:EgyptiansCleopatra (Main story and flashback)Unnamed EgyptiansAntagonists:Mad Pharaoh (Hatap) (First appearance; dies) (Main story and flashback)The Mad Pharaoh's soldiersOther Characters:Paul (First appearance)Roman LegionsIsis (Invoked)Jupiter (Invoked)Races and Species:HumansLocations:SolEarthNorth AmericaUnited States of AmericaAfricaEgyptCairoHatap's TombGreat Sphinx (Cameo)Cleopatra's Summer PalaceItems:Iron Man's BriefcaseIron Man Armor Model 1Vehicles:Chariot of Time (First appearance)Synopsis for "Iron Man Faces the Menace of the Mad Pharaoh!"Reprint of the 1st story fromTales of Suspense #44Tony Stark boards a plane to fly to Egypt, where he is to join an old friend of his who is excavating King Hatap's Tomb. He endures some good-natured ribbing from reporters about what he thinks his chances would be to romance a lady like Cleopatra. By the time he gets to the dig site, his archaeologist friend Paul worries that it will take months of aimless digging to find the tomb. Stark offers the services of his "friend" Iron Man, who can use his electronic probes to see through the pyramid walls and locate the tomb. Tony enjoys an evening watching belly-dancers in Cairo before he is taken ill and has to retire to his room and "recharge" his chest plate. The next morning, Iron Man arrives at the dig site and uses a powerful transistorized fluoroscope to quickly locate the tomb. He then uses his armor’s diamond tipped drills to bore his way into the tomb, doing in only minutes what would have taken the diggers months to accomplish. Inside the tomb, Paul and Iron Man find King Hatap's mummy, which is shrouded in strange wrappings the archaeologist has never seen before (an oddity entirely befitting the man whom Paul calls "The Mad Pharaoh"). Iron Man leaves, only to reappear shortly as Tony Stark. When Stark arrives at the excavation site, Paul informs him that the mummy appears to have been stolen. While Paul is out searching the area, a mystery man approaches Stark in his tent and declares himself to be none other than King Hatap, the Mad Pharaoh. Stark believes the man is telling the truth because of the Sacred Asp ring he wears, which Hatap was depicted wearing in the tomb’s hieroglyphics. Demanding to know more, Hatap tells Stark that he was never dead; in fact, he has just awoken from 2,000 years of suspended animation, initiated when he took a magical potion to make him appear dead in order to evade his enemies.Hatap's plan is to return to his own time and replace his enemy, Cleopatra, as the ruler of Egypt. He conjures a magical plague and demands that Stark travel back in time with him to aid him in his battle against Cleopatra, or he will allow Paul and his workers to die. After Stark agrees, Hatap disperses the plague, and rubs a magical golden charm twice, summoning the Chariot of Time, in which they travel back to ancient Egypt.Once they arrive in Ancient Egypt, Stark rolls down a sand dune out of sight of Hatap and dons his Iron Man armor. As Iron Man, he rises into the sky, causing Hatap to believe he is a monster that has killed Stark. As Hatap flees, Iron Man decides to locate and meet Cleopatra. Along the way, he sees a Roman Legion laying siege to an Egyptian palace and decides to enter the battle on the side of the Egyptians. He manages to topple the marauding legion and send them into a hasty retreat. Once the battle has subsided, Iron Man asks for an audience with Cleopatra, but the thankful Egyptians tell him that she has fled in a barge only minutes earlier. Iron Man chases down the barge and blasts through the hull of a Roman galley which had nearly overtaken it, causing the galley to sink.Later, Iron Man is brought into the chambers of the beautiful Cleopatra. He informs her that Hatap has returned from the dead and plans to take over her throne. Cleopatra begs Iron Man to help her rid Egypt of his menace, which he agrees to do. Soon afterwards, Iron Man leads an army of Egyptian soldiers into battle against Hatap and his army. Iron Man attaches caster wheels and a jet engine to his armor, turning himself into a jet-powered human battering ram that quickly demolishes Hatap’s forces, sending them flying. One–on-one, Hatap is no match for Iron Man and attempts to make a quick getaway using his magical golden charm. Iron Man uses a squirt of oil from his armor’s lubrication system to cause Hatap to lose his grip on the charm. As he attempts to catch the falling charm, Hatap trips and falls onto an upturned sword, killing himself. Iron Man grabs the charm, and despite an offer from Cleopatra to stay and rule her kingdom with her, uses it to return to 1963.Back in the future, Paul shows Stark a strange hieroglyphic, which features a character resembling Iron Man seen with Cleopatra.
