Description: RARE - Tiffany Favrile Glass Bud Vase with metal base - Authentic L.C.T. Gold and green in color with very nice iridescence! In museum quality condition.Measures 14.75 Heigh 1.5in wide at the top. This vase is absolutely beautiful and comes from the family estate collection of former U.S. Secretary of State Lawrence S. Eagleburger and his wife Marlene who were avid collectors of fine art and antiques. They purchased this in the mid 80's from a Fine Art dealer in NY and it has been displayed behind glass in our home ever since. I have seen many fake Tiffany Favrile glass items out there with inconsistent signatures, this one is the real deal - I encourage interested buyers out there to do their research (markhillpublishing dot com) offers a great article about the real vs fake LCT mark. (history) Favrile glass is a type of iridescent art glass developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. He patented this process in 1894 and first produced the glass for manufacture in 1896 in Queens, New York. It differs from most iridescent glasses because the color is ingrained in the glass itself, as well as having distinctive coloring. Tiffany won a grand prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition for his Favrile glass.
