Description: "Essai sur l'Architecture Théâtrale" is a 212 page (plus a half-title page, title page and 3 folded plates), 5"x7.75" hardcover written by Pierre Platte and published in 1782 in Paris by Chez Moutard. All text is in French. It's bound in quarter leather and in acceptable condition with loss at the head of the spine, heavy rubbing and wear to the boards. The backstrip has likely been reglued. There are small marks to the front and back pastedowns, ffep, title page, pages 1 and 193, a marginal tear to the half-title page's side. The pages are browned with a bit of foxing. Both plates are present and in good condition - the first plate appears to have a tape repair (to the reverse side) along the top fold. "Patte made an influential contribution to the design of theatres with his Essai sur l'Architecture Théâtrale (1782). He applied principles of sight-lines and acoustics to determine the ellipse as the best shape for auditoria, and he used a comparative analysis of existing theatres and books on theatre design to generate design standards." -Web Gallery of Art
