Description: Everyone knows that we went decimal in 1971, what most people don’t realise is that from 1971 to 1981 the denomination on our coins was ‘New Pence’ and not 'Pence'. In 1982 the Royal Mint dropped the word ‘New’ from the denomination. These 1971 sets come sealed in a protective flat plastic case with a colour wrapper and contain the following coins 1/2p, 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 50p. One of the coins in sets is no longer made, the Halfpence and three of these coins have now been downsized, the 5p, 10p and 50p. Of course these coins also have the denomination ‘New Pence’.
